Shortly after 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 26, the Frederick County Emergency Communications Center dispatched a call for a reported small building fire in the 13600 block of Glissans Mill Road in the Mount Airy area, prompting a call for assistance from neighboring agencies.
Upon arrival, crews were met by flames and smoke billowing from the roof of what was described as a "small building fire" in the area of the Red Shedman Brewery.
It was unoccupied at the time.
According to fire investigators, a total of nearly four dozen firefighters from Frederick, Carroll, Howard and Montgomery counties responded to battle the blaze for two hours until the flames were knocked down, then knocked down hotspots for approximately five more hours.
No injuries were reported. The fire caused an estimated $800,000 in damage.
The brewery is expected to be closed "for the foreseeable future" as the owners assess the damage, though the Linganore Winery was unaffected by the fire and will remain open for business.
"It is with a heavy heart that we share some unfortunate news ... As many of you have probably heard, early this morning the Red Shedman Taproom experienced a devastating fire," officials said.
"The blaze caused significant damage. We extend our deepest gratitude to the firefighters that worked tirelessly to contain and extinguish the flames.
"We are glad to report that no one was inside the brewery at the time of the fire, and everyone is safe."
The Frederick County Division of Fire and Rescue Services Fire Marshal’s Office was on scene and continues to investigate the cause and origin of the blaze.
